Fill in the Blank Fridays

I know, I know... I really should be doing my O-Chem lab that I ditched. In my defense, I peeked inside the room my lab was meeting in and I can assure you only 35% of the class was there and not single one of my group members was in sight.

So, Fill in the Blank Friday's is an idea I got from a good friend. She totally sold me on the whole idea and so I'm excited to test it out, thank goodness today is Friday or else I would have never remembered to do this otherwise.

He is a listener
He always exercises
He likes animals
He gives the best hugs
He loves cinnamon
He doesn't remember anything
He dresses well
He is excellent at video games
He can't cook
He looks athletic

Yep... thats my Brother for you in a nutshell

Look what I found!

(This would be my oh cool, look how excited I am about what I just found face)

I was looking through some older documents in my word files and found this paragraph from ages ago...and I'm talking like pre-high school. I'd been looking for it and finally I found it on one of my older flash drives.

Maybe I will finish it someday but for now here's what i got:

Years mean nothing when a day can steal a future. Goals, logs, deadlines, even dreams fall faster then they build. 3 seconds to be exact. That was how long it took to lose mine. My part of town was a little different than others. It was still in New York, and right outside of the city but its was right next to a bay so smelling the water wasn't strange at all. Summer days were always cooler with the bay breeze shooting its salty-fresh smell our way of town. Misses Beasley lived two doors down from mine, and walking by her house was like walking over a rickety old bridge, that felt like it was going to fall apart if you took another step. She lived alone, and everything about her was old, dilapidated and stale.

Burgers, Schnieppers Style

I have been craving burgers for a while now. And its not just any kind of burger, I'm feelin' a Schnippers cheeseburger with a side of sweet potato fries and maple dressing. I had a good friend that shared this place with me, and its DANG good.
Paul's Place between 7th and St. MArk's Place is also the bomb! I recommend the hidalgo Burger cause its got sweet and spicy jalepenos. This place has limited seating and only accepts cash but everything from their rough-gruff-nicer-than-they-look staff, to their amazing milkshakes are to die for...Major props to my Aunt for bringing me there one fateful winter's evening.

Whats Been On My Mind

Its no Shakespearean Sonnet but its 14 lines of what I think every guy should know ::

Words of Advice.

behind the gaze of every stare
lies withdrawn, her hearts true care.

If what you said was what she heard
and what she heard remained unstirred
then take a moment, just assume
that what you said was long untombed.
For if the page that you do stride
should be the one where her heart reside
there is no doubt she thought it too
yes, when in love all queries brew.

When she responds as if bereft
be prepared :: here comes a theft.
What she embezzles aim to regain
:: In this truth lies her soul's campaign.

New Semester, New Love

I just started my semester. To my surprise my favorite classes are the two I feared the most when I registered for them. These classes are Bio-Chem 285 (the status on this may change), and Anatomy 220 (the status on this is unchangeable, my professor is that good!).
There is so much information, and I just know I'm going to be living in the library for the next four months but I think it will be so worth it...I'm tempted to look into pre-med.
My next favorite class is probably my Volleyball coaching one since my teacher is none other than the Women's Volleyball coach! I'm pretty stoked on that and for when the class moves onto the court.

The Human body is incredible and I am so excited that I get to learn about it and, gain a greater appreciation for Heavenly Father's creations.

So...I"m putting my heart and souls into this. I have a good feeling though that this is what I'm supposed to be doing. English and Culinary school can wait.

2011 Reading List

One of my resolutions this year is to read one novel every month that steps outside of the my academic requirements. Yale offers a free two hour course online where many of these novels are discussed. While I will not be enrolling and doing the papers required by the course I will be participating in the lectures and lucky enough, many of these books match with the assigned reading.

Here they are...

January : Beyond good and Evil, Nietzsche
February: Wise Blood, O'Connor
March: Slaughter House 5, Vonnegut
April: On the Road, Kerouac
May: The Confession, Grisham
June: Crying of Lot 49, Pynchon
July: Bleak House, Dickens
August: Housekeeping, Robinson
September: The Human Stain, Roth
October: The Known World, Jones
November: Everything is Illuminated, Foer
December: The Corrections, Franzen

If you have any suggestions, I am very flexible on this list. So by all means, enlighten me.

My Favorite Poet:: William Blake

In my senior year of High School my AP English teacher Mr. Avitabile assigned our class a poetry project. This assignment encouraged an exploration of poetry as a form of human expression. I LOVED it. I also learned that I loved the poetry of the Romanticists. My favorite poem by Blake, "the Chimney Sweeper" is remarkable. I'd tell you what I think about it, but, in my opinion its best when it stands alone without critique or analysis.

Enjoy!

When my mother died I was very young,
And my father sold me while yet my tongue
Could scarcely cry 'weep! 'weep! 'weep! 'weep!
So your chimneys I sweep, and in soot I sleep.

There's little Tom Dacre, who cried when his head,
That curled like a lamb's back, was shaved: so I said,
"Hush, Tom! never mind it, for when your head's bare,
You know that the soot cannot spoil your white hair."

And so he was quiet; and that very night,
As Tom was a-sleeping, he had such a sight, -
That thousands of sweepers, Dick, Joe, Ned, and Jack,
Were all of them locked up in coffins of black.

And by came an angel who had a bright key,
And he opened the coffins and set them all free;
Then down a green plain leaping, laughing, they run,
And wash in a river, and shine in the sun.

Then naked and white, all their bags left behind,
They rise upon clouds and sport in the wind;
And the angel told Tom, if he'd be a good boy,
He'd have God for his father, and never want joy.

And so Tom awoke; and we rose in the dark,
And got with our bags and our brushes to work.
Though the morning was cold, Tom was happy and warm;
So if all do their duty they need not fear harm.
